Archerfield Wildlife Centre Ltd is a registered charity with the principal objective of relieving the suffering of non-domestic animals by promoting their care and rehabilitation. To achieve the aims of the Company the Directors have prepared a business plan to raise funds to set up and maintain an appropriate centre for the rescue, care and treatment of animals. It is proposed that the Centre be based at Archerfield Farm, Dirleton, East Lothian. At present there are no paid staff, but the intention is that there should be at least two part time members of staff. In addition it is envisaged that volunteers who see the need to provide this type of facility in the area will give further support. The geographical area covered by the Company will be East Lothian with the possibility of expansion into Midlothian and the Scottish Borders. There are currently no multi-species rehabilitation facilities covering this area. This means that casualties have to travel long distances before treatment can begin which can not only be costly, but detrimental to the animal’s welfare.
The Lothians and Borders regions are rich in flaura and fauna. Unfortunately this means that there are a high number of wildlife casualties, however ther are no local facilities available to alleviate their suffering quickly. We will be able to provide treatment and rehabilitation for garden birds, seabirds, swans, roe deer, badgers, hedgehogs, ground game and other small herbivores. Being in a coastal location we are likely to be brought many injured seabirds. They may have feather damage due to oil spills, have become entangled in discarded rubbish or have broken limbs. Without this centre they will face a journey of 45 miles to the nearest facility before treatment can begin.
